在名為斯沃羅夫的小島上，生活著一個名叫弗林德·洛克伍德（比爾·哈德BillHader配音）青年，他從小就想法多多，熱衷各種各樣的科學發明，比如不用鞋帶的鞋子、能夠自動行走的電視、飛行汽車、猴子語言翻譯器等。想法雖好，但通常都以失敗和災難告終。母親生前對他的鼓勵令弗林德從不灰心，他屢挫屢勇，在科學發明的天地里自得其樂。不過，老爸再也無法忍受兒子無休止的折騰，他要求弗林德在自家的店里幫忙。與此同時，為了解決當地食物匱乏的問題，弗林德偷偷進行著超級食物機的研究。在最新的嘗試中，弗林德毀掉了剛剛揭幕的沙丁魚樂園，不過他的實驗也取得成效。眾目睽睽之下，天空下起了令人難以置信的漢堡包雨！一切都變得有趣起來
